Dewald Swanepoel, Kevin Ravno and Phil Penlington spent Birding Big Day in the South Eastern Soutpanberg. They clocked up 206 species in the 24 hour period.

A Coordinated Waterbird Count (CWAC) count took place in the last weekend of January 2006 along two sections of the Limpopo River. One section in Mapungubwe and another in northern Kruger.

On the 1st and 2nd of Feb. 2008 eight birders attempted the annual summer CWAC count along the Limpopo River in Mapungubwe and Kruger. Not may water birds were counted but fantastic birding was had by all.

Mega Birding Tour - February 2004

The Mega Tour was conceived as a way of demonstrating the tremendous birding potential of the Soutpansberg-Limpopo region. More than 500 species are known to be possible for the area in summer and the Mega Tour has demonstrated that, even on a first attempt, almost 400 can be recorded within a 10-day period.

Mega Birding Tour - February 2005

This was our second Mega Birding Tour of the SLBR area. The trip total was 378 species, less that the2004 trip, but 50 new species were seen that were not seen in 2004. This brings the overall total of what can been seen in the SLBR area in 10 days in the month of February to over 400 species.
