Thabapashwa Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails |

 The Thabapashwa Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails lie in a unique moutain range between Polokwane and Mokopane. The 2000 hectres of the farm is dominated by huge granite outcrops that provide a range of habitats. There is a combination of thornveld and broadleafed woodland as well as riverine areas along a couple of small streams that run through the farm. The unusual habitat has provided for interesting sightings on the farm, the rocky outcrops and mountains are home to two pairs of Verraux’s Eagle, Lanner and Peregrine Falcon, Rock Kestrel and Cape Eagle Owl. Shelly’s Francolin, Striped Pipit, Cape Rock Thrush and Mountain Chat are also seen in the rocky areas of the farm. Other specials that can be found here include Ovambo Sparrowhawk, Secretary Bird, Barrows Korhaan and Freckled Nightjar. Other special sightings in the past have been of Yellow-spotted Nicator, Greyhood Kingfisher and Meyer’s Parrot.
The accommodation on the farm is varied and complements the beautiful scenery by being build into and around the big boulders and landscape. The Dome Rock Camp can accommodate 26 in 5 huts each with it’s own boma and wash-up area. There is a freezer that server the whole camp and ablutions are in reed enclosures with hot and cold running water and flush toilets. The huts can be booked seperately.
The Kanniedood Camp can sleep 14 and has a huge deck over looking the farm, the camp can only be reached by 4 x 4 or by a 10 minute hike.
There is a more luxuary option in a fully equiped self contained thached cottage, and there is also a camp site for those who have all their own camping equipment.
There are over 95km of hiking and biking trails on the farm and the are 7 bolted rock climbing routes for those who want to try something other than birding.

 This four star protea hotel is situated about twenty kilometers south of Polokwane. The hotel has large well tended gardens that attract a host of birds in the dry seasons. Residents at the hotel have access to over a 1000 hectares of Polokwane Plateau Bushveld and many farm dams on the hotel property & wildlife conservancy. Over 240 birds have been recorded on the conservancy including White-backed Duck, Greater Kestrel, Northern-black Korhaan and Red-Throated Wryneck. Residents are welcome to explore the property by organized game drive or on mountain bikes or on foot. There is a heronry at one of the farm dams near the hotel that has up to 500 Cattle Egret, Sacred Ibis, Grey Heron and Spoonbills roosting in it at certain times of the year. You will also see a variety of game on the farm including Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Kudu, and Nyala. The Ranch is also home to more than 20 Lions in separate enclosures.
The Ranch offers a variety of accommodation options from luxury suites with private Jacuzzi’s to inter-leading family rooms or deluxe rooms The hotel also offers game drives & lion tours, horse back riding, swimming pools and tennis courts. There are two restaurants, a coffee shop and a warm & friendly bar lounge. Special packed breakfasts can be arranged for early morning birding trips. This is an ideal venue from which to explore the Polokwane and Mokopane birding sites.

 This charming hotel, on 150 hectares of a working mango farm is in the sub-tropical, mixed bushveld area that has produced a good variety of interesting birds through the years. Broad-tailed Paradise Whydah and their hosts Golden-backed Pytilia are occasionally seen in this area. More common are the Broad-billed Roller, Carmine and Blue cheeked Bee-eater, Black Flycatcher and Groundscraper Thrush. Keep a look out for African Cuckoo Hawk and the three species of Indigobird that occur here. Several bird-feeding trays scattered around the lodge gardens attract Cut-throat Finch, Golden-breasted Bunting and Jameson´s Firefinch. There are a series of trails that take in some of the dams on the farm where there is good habitat for Warblers, Kingfishers and Cisticolas. These walks can be done by day-visitors through prior arrangement. The lodge offers 28 en-suite rooms, six self-catering units; a pool and buffet style breakfasts, lunches and dinners in an a-la-carte restaurant.
